Hi guys! To tell the truth, I decided to write this article after writing the two other ones – about most popular Russian girls’ and boys’ names. I felt it a bit unfair that my husband’s name wasn’t in the second list.
His name is not a rare one, but it still has some peculiarity: it’s among those names which are used both for males and females.
So this time we will talk about these sorts of Russian names. There are not so many of them, really. So here is the list of Russian names for boys and girls — 6 so called unisex names.

In Russian there are names that can be used both for girls and boys. But in Thailand there are people who can be both… (Guess which one of the girls on the picture used to have a male name)
Ok, here we go. You’ll find short colloquial forms in brackets. I have listed them from the most popular to the least.
1. Male – Evgeniy (Jenya) – Евгений (Женя). And that’s my husband’s name, btw.
Female – Evgenia (Jenya) – Евгения (Женя).
2. Male – Alexander (Sasha) – Александр (Саша).
Female – Alexandra (Sasha) – Александра (Саша).
3. Male – Victor (Vitya) –Виктор (Витя).
Female – Victoria (Vika) – Виктория (Вика).
4. Male — Valentin (Valya) – Валентин (Валя).
Female – Valentina (Valya) – Валентина (Валя).
5. Male – Anton (Anton) – Антон (Антон).
Female – Antonina (Tonya) – Антонина (Тоня).
6. Male – Yaroslav (Yaric) – Ярослав (Ярик).
Female – Yaroslava (Yaroslava) – Ярослава (Ярослава).
I guess you noticed that some of the short forms are the same both for boys and girls.
Ok, I hope this one helps your better communication with Russians! Stay tuned!
