Useful phrases for See You Later and See You in Russian

Hi everyone, today we will learn how to say See you later (or See you soon) or just See you in Russian. There are many ways, but let’s start with the two most commonly used. So, if you want to say see you in Russian you say «Пока». «Пока» simply means ‘bye’. Despite its informal sound, we can say it most of the time – to everyone. You can also hear how Russians say «пока-пока».

«Пока-пока» is, as Thai people like to put it, ‘same same but different’. While it’s just a simple repetition of the word «пока», it is a much more informal way to say see you in Russian. So it pretty much narrows down the number of situations you can use it in.

How to say ‘see you’ or ‘see you soon’ or ‘see you later’ in Russian if you really mean to SEE someone

You can go with the Russian word «Увидимся». It means ‘we will see each other sometime soon’. Yes, it’s true! One simple word instead of the whole phrase (of course I know that English native speakers don’t usually put it like that).

As the word «Увидимся» comes from the word «видеть» — ‘to see’ you should say it only when you mean to see someone in the near future. Sure, you may say it even if you don’t plan on meeting with this person any time soon but you know that they would like to. If you feel ok about that – feel free to say it. But then don’t tell anyone that I taught it to you. 🙂
